White Butte RCMP police vehicle rammed during traffic stop

Two women and man were arrested after an RCMP vehicle was rammed an RCMP cruiser twice before fleeing.

On June 20, 2024, at approximately 12 p.m., White Butte RCMP received a report of an impaired driver at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Highway 662 overpass near Balgonie, Sask.

Officers responded immediately. White Butte RCMP located the suspect vehicle in a commercial parking lot. The officers engaged their emergency lights and parked head on with the suspect vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle then drove forward, struck the police vehicle twice head on, and fled. The police vehicle was damaged. The officer driving the police vehicle was not physically injured.

Given the escalated safety risk, officers pursued the vehicle westbound on Highway 46 towards Pilot Butte. For safety reasons, a tire deflation device was set up and the suspect vehicle ran over it near the intersection of Highway 362 and Highway 46. The tires were flattened and the vehicle came to a stop.

Tamara Cyr, 33, from Regina was charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, refusing to comply with an alcohol demand, and driving while prohibited.

RCMP say their investigation is ongoing and they have no further details to provide at this time.

Regina Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan assisted with the investigation.
