Yukon RCMP Major Crimes investigates home explosion

On June 20, 2024, the Yukon RCMP said they continue to investigate the explosion that occurred Nov. 14, 2023, in the Riverdale neighbourhood which resulted in the tragic death of a community member.

Due to an ongoing and complex criminal investigation, police say they still are not yet able to provide details to the public. The RCMP Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.

Police confirm their investigation has expanded into a criminal inquiry.

On Nov. 14, 20234, around 5:30 am, the Whitehorse RCMP responded to reports that there had been a home explosion on Bates Crescent, Whitehorse. Police attended the scene to find little remaining of the home and damage done to neighbouring properties.

One person was deceased as a result of the explosion. Another was transported to hospital with critical injuries.
