Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating the suspicious death of a male early Tuesday morning and are seeking information on the truck’s location from the date it was stolen March 18 to when it was discovered April 2.
On April 2, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Northwest Branch patrol officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area of 94 Street and 145 Avenue. Upon arrival a deceased male was located in the driver’s seat of a black truck. Witnesses described seeing a white truck fleeing the area.
A short time later a white truck was found on fire in the area of 106 Street and 155 Avenue.
It has since been determined that this truck was stolen on March 18 and remained outstanding until discovered burnt out Tuesday morning. Investigators are asking for anyone that may have observed this truck, parked or driving, during that timeframe to contact police.
“The truck had visible red tape along the rear passenger tail light,” says Staff Sergeant Rob Bilawey of the EPS Homicide Section. “While there are many white GMC trucks in the city, we are hopeful that someone may recognize this truck’s unique tail light whether it was driving on a roadway or noticeably parked for a period of time.”
EPS Homicide Section detectives have since taken over the investigation. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.
Investigators are seeking information as to the location of this truck from the date it was stolen to when it was discovered.
In addition, they are asking anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage from the area of 94 Street and 145 Avenue between 1:00 a.m. to 1:40 a.m., and from the area of 106 Street and 155 Avenue between 1:30 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
