Fabio Puglisi, 44, is accused of stabbing two women to death in Montreal on Feb. 15.
Police say Puglisi killed his mother, 68-year-old Elisabetta Puglisi-Caucci, and a neighbour, 53-year-old Manon Blanchard.
He is also charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault against another neighbour, Nighat Imtiaz, 70, who was seriously injured in the attack. She is in hospital in stable condition.
Puglisi appeared at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse on Feb. 16 by video conference.
On Feb. 15, police had been called to the sixth floor of an apartment building on Émile-Bouchard Street in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., where they found the victims and arrested Puglisi.
Puglisi is expected back in court on Feb. 22.
