More than $73K in drugs, 3 loaded 9-mm handguns and loaded sawed-off .22 rifle seized
Calgary Police have charged three men and two women after locating prohibited firearms and more than $73,000 worth of illicit drugs at a downtown homeless encampment.
On Dec. 19, at approximately 9:10 a.m., members of the CPS Mountain Bike Unit were completing a trespassing check and check on welfare at an encampment on private property, located in the 600 block of First Street S.E. 290 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $23,208.
Police seized 333.5 grams of fentanyl, with a street value of $50,025,20, 7 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, with street value of $225, a loaded, sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, three loaded 9-mm handguns with 3D-printed receivers, and restricted extended capacity magazines, and a prohibited switchblade-style knife.
Lance Little Light, 48, Carleen Healy, 28, Trinity Healy, 34, Shawnawa Firstrider, 45, and Levi Bruyere, 24, were arrested.
“This incident underscores the importance of addressing encampments early,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Michael Anderson of the Calgary Police Service.
“We work closely with our community partners to ensure we are always leading with compassion and services; however, enforcement is still a critical component of ensuring public safety. In this case, our officers put themselves in a dangerous situation to address the safety concerns and criminality at this particular encampment, and through enforcement, we were able to take illegal guns and drugs off of Calgary streets.”
Little Light appeared in court Dec. 22. He is charged with four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, eight counts of possession of a firearm when prohibited from doing so by a judicial order, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking.
Carleen Healy is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17, 2024, on 19 charges, including four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, failure to comply with a release order, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking.
Trinity Healty is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17, 2024, on 24 charges, including, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, and eight counts of possession of a firearm when prohibited from doing so by a judicial order.
Shawnawa Firstrider appears in court on Jan. 17, 2024, on 27 charges, including four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, eight counts of possession of a firearm when prohibited from doing so by judicial order, two counts of failure to comply with a release order, and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
Levi Bruyere is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17, 2024, on 18 charges, including four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, and two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.
