A small homemade improvised explosive device was detonated outside a home in the 100 block of Arlington Avenue in Ottawa on Sunday evening. Officers went to the home around 8:40 p.m. after getting multiple 911 calls about a loud noise and flash.
The Ottawa Police Service Central Criminal Investigations Section has charged 53-year-old Gordon Ahlstrom with Intend to cause explosion, cause damage, or death, and mischief to property.
Police determined that the noise and flash were due to a small device being detonated. No one was injured.
Early Monday morning, a warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence, and he was arrested.
Ahlstrom appeared in Ottawa court Monday.
