A 75-year-old man, Terrance Steeves, from Riverview, N.B., was sentenced on Nov. 24 to three years in prison in connection with an investigation into child pornography. Steeves was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry and to provide a DNA sample.
The investigation began in March 2021 as part of a proactive investigation by the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit. On June 22, 2021, police executed a search warrant at a home in Riverview as part of the ongoing investigation. Steeves was arrested at the scene and police seized several electronic devices. He was later released from custody on conditions, and was scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
On April 7, 2022, Steeves was charged in Moncton Provincial Court with possession of child pornography, and making available child pornography. On Aug 21, Steeves pleaded guilty to both charges.
The New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. The RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services Unit and members from the Northeast District RCMP assisted with the ongoing investigation.
