Thirty-two-year-old Shaeleigh Jahner has been killed and 32-year-old Christopher Furgason has been charged with manslaughter.
On Nov. 24, at about 1:30 p.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to an apartment building for a firearms complaint and they found Jahner deceased.
Police were then searching for Furgason who was armed and they told residents in Riverside Meadows to shelter in place. Police also locked down all nearby schools for several hours.
Red Deer RCMP eventually told the public that the shelter in place order had been lifted and there was no longer a concern for public safety. At the time they didn’t specify why.
The incident had started earlier in the day after Red Deer RCMP were called to a firearms complaint in the area of 59 Avenue between 60 Street and 60a street in the city of Red Deer. They released Furgason’s photo and warned the public that he was considered armed and dangerous.
At 7:30 p.m., police arrested Furgason. He has been charged with manslaughter and was brought before a justice of the peace. He was remanded into custody, with his next court date set for Dec. 1, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
Jahner’s social media says she is from Stettler and went to school in Lacombe.
