COCHRANE, Alta. – In early September 2026, Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began an investigation into a series of break and enters. The incidents took place at private residences and storage lockers across southern Alberta. A number of these occurrences included the theft of firearms.
During the investigation, CRU members determined that the stolen firearms were being stored at a residence in Crossfield, Alberta. On Sept. 14, with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Airdrie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and Airdrie Rural RCMP, investigators executed a search warrant at the suspected residence.
The execution of the search warrant resulted in the seizure of 15 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition. The origin of the firearms is still under investigation; however, a number are believed to have been stolen during the break and enters.
This seizure prevented these firearms from entering the illegal market or reaching the community, significantly reducing the risk of their use in future criminal activity and helping to enhance public safety.
The suspect was not present at the residence at the time the warrant was executed and has not yet been arrested. The investigation is ongoing, say police.
