Gursewak Singh, 22, remains in custody ahead bail hearing

Abbotsford Police have laid a charge in connection with a shooting at a business on King Road last week.
On December 17 at approximately 10:43 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business in the 31000 block of King Road. Officers confirmed a shooting had taken place. No one was injured.
Police located a vehicle matching the suspect description on Highway 1 near Whatcom Road. The driver was arrested without incident.
On December 18, 22-year-old Gursewak Singh was formally charged. He is charged with discharging a firearm into or at a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether another person was present in the place.
Singh remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing on December 23.
The Abbotsford Police Department has released a photo of Singh. Police say the disclosure was determined necessary in the public interest to assist with the investigation.
“This image will help provide accurate information and may prompt additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information surrounding Mr. Singh’s activities,” stated a police release.
Deputy Chief Daniel Culbertson commented on the arrest.
“This arrest, and the work continually being undertaken by the dedicated officers within AbbyPD, reinforces that public safety is our top priority,” said Culbertson. “We will not relent in our efforts to protect our community from extortion, violence, and intimidation.”
The investigation is being handled by AbbyPD’s Extortion Task Force, operating under the name Operation Community Shield. The task force is focused on disrupting and investigating extortion-related events in Abbotsford.
