On June 12, 2025, High Level RCMP began an investigation into drug trafficking at a local apartment complex. On Nov. 19, 2025, High Level RCMP spotted the suspect in the process of a suspected drug transaction and conducted an arrest. The suspect fled but was apprehended after resisting arrest. A search incidental to arrest revealed approximately 65 grams of cocaine. Search warrants were executed on two units in the complex, with assistance from RCMP Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, resulting in the seizure of 32 tablets of oxycodone, over 100g of cannabis and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.
As a result of the investigation, Yahya Ahmed (32), a resident of High Level, was charged with:
- Trafficking cocaine;
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2);
- Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling; and
- Resist police officer.
Ahmed was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in High Level on Dec. 8, 2025.
