A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday after a Guelph Police officer was punched in the face and bitten earlier in the week.
Approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday officers located a man downtown who was the subject of an apprehension order under the Mental Health Act. Officers stopped the man after a brief foot pursuit but he became aggressive and punched an officer in the face.
While officers were trying to gain control of the man he bit the same officer on the wrist, breaking the skin.
Eventually the man was detained and transported for medical treatment. The officer sought medical attention and requires ongoing treatment for an injury to his shoulder sustained in the struggle.
On Wednesday a 29-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for assault police and two counts of breaching probation orders. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
