Alberta RCMP have laid charges in connection with the Jan. 28, 2025, homicide of a man on O’Chiese First Nation. The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Shawn Lee Geddes.
On July 29, 2025, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged 28-year-old Derrick Phazar Whitford with second-degree murder.
Whitford, who was already in custody, was remanded for future court dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
