Police release suspect’s photo saying may be more victims
A Canada-wide arrest warrant was secured by Lloydminster RCMP GIS, leading to the suspect’s apprehension by Nova Scotia RCMP on May 27.
On March 18, 2025, the Lloydminster RCMP had received a disturbing complaint involving an adult engaged in the exchange of sexually explicit images with a minor through Snapchat. As the investigation unfolded, authorities discovered that the suspect had traveled to the Lloydminster area with the intent to commit further sexual offences. The case was taken over by the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), who successfully identified the individual responsible.
The suspect, originally from Prince Edward Island, had relocated to Ontario, where he initiated the illicit Snapchat communications. During the course of the investigation, RCMP learned that he had recently moved to Nova Scotia.
Travis James Birt, a 29-year-old Nova Scotia resident, now faces multiple serious charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child. Following his arrest, Birt was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on June 9.
Staff Sergeant Nutbrown of the Lloydminster RCMP GIS expressed gratitude to the Nova Scotia RCMP for their crucial role in apprehending the suspect.
“We have sent out Birt’s picture in hopes that other potential victims will come forth and speak with their local police,” said Nutbrown.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case or who may have been victimized by Birt to reach out to the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400.
