The Northwest Territories RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in finding a man wanted on an arrest warrant for child pornography-related offenses.
Aydarus Abdi Warsame, 56, is wanted after failing to appear in court on May 9, 2024, following a Supreme Court judge’s ruling that there was sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Warsame was initially charged on Feb. 23, 2022, with possession of child pornography, and accessing child pornography.
After a preliminary hearing in February 2024 in Yellowknife, he was ordered to return to court on May 9 to set a trial date. When he failed to appear, an additional charge of failure to attend court was laid.
Despite extensive efforts to locate him, RCMP have been unable to find Warsame, whose last known address was in Edmonton, Alta.
He is 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, and is bald. He has a black beard and brown eyes.
