Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section are investigating the city’s fourth homicide of the year — and the second over the May long weekend.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police responded to the area of Avenue B South and Spadina Crescent following a report of a person suffering from a stab wound. A 43-year-old male was located and transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At approximately 5 a.m., May 17, 2025, police responded to a motel in the 2000 block of Avenue B North after it was reported a person was suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside, an injured 20-year-old male was located and transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A 27 year old male has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. A second male, identified as 26-year-old Lawrence Opikowew, is still outstanding and considered armed and dangerous. Opikokew is described as being Indigenous, 6’4” in height, 190 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.
