A Calgary Transit Peace Officer has been charged with assault following an on-duty incident that occurred earlier this year.
Around1 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, Transit Peace Officers were dispatched to the Marlborough CTrain Station for a medical event. While dealing with this event, an unrelated man initiated a verbal confrontation with the officers causing a disturbance. The man was directed to leave Transit property, which he refused to do, resulting in his arrest. The arrest became physical and the man was struck several times while being restrained.
The man was transported by the peace officers to hospital as a precaution and later issued a summons for failure to depart Calgary Transit property and a one-year ban under the Trespass to Premises Act.
After an investigation by the Calgary Police Service into the actions of the involved officers, and in consultation with Alberta Crown Prosecution Services, Calgary Transit Peace Officer Joshua Tyler FRANKS, 36, has been charged with one count of assault. He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024.
