A Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) officer has been charged in connection with an on-duty incident.
Earlier today the constable was charged with assault stemming from an incident May 10, 2023, in the LPS Short Term Holding Facility. A physical altercation, that did not result in any injuries, occurred while a male prisoner was being booked into cells.
The matter came to light upon review of the officer’s Use of Force Report – a document that is required to be submitted when any use of force is used other than cooperative handcuffing and escort techniques.
The Chief of Police subsequently directed an investigation by members of the Professional Standards Unit. The completed investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service for review and a charge of assault was recommended.
Chris Stock, a 23-year member of the Service, is scheduled to appear in court December 10. He has been assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the matter.
The officer and his family have been offered appropriate supports from LPS.
