Could be linked to 9 other incidents where objects – including concrete slabs – thrown off Whitemud overpass onto moving vehicles
Edmonton Police arrested Getnet Teklay, 34, in connection to a large metal object being thrown from the Whitemud Drive overpass at 53 Avenue onto a moving vehicle.
Police say the incident was reported to them on March 6.
The large object smashed through the vehicle’s windshield and struck an adult female passenger, who was travelling in the rear seat next to her infant child. The female was taken to hospital and treated for a serious, non-life-threatening injury.
Police were able to identify the accused in the incident as Getnet Teklay. He was charged with mischief endangering life, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Police are investigating whether the event is linked to the previous nine incidents involving objects thrown off the Whitemud overpass onto moving vehicles.

The first incident was on Dec. 28, 2023, with the most recent incident occurring just Feb. 22, 2024.
Eight of the instances have occurred at the 53 Avenue and Whitemud Drive overpass, while the other incident occurred on 99 Street and Whitemud Drive.
